Best Surf Season (November - February)

The heart of the surf season at Conchalio pulses strongest from November through February. During these months, the North Pacific high-pressure system strengthens, channeling consistent offshore winds from the NNE and NE quadrant. The trade winds relax just enough to allow long-period south swells to work their magic, with average wave periods hovering around 12-13 seconds. Swell heights average a solid 1.0-1.2m, producing clean, fun-sized waves that peel down the line. The combination of 70%+ favourable wind and reliable swell makes this the go-to window for intermediate to advanced surfers.

Fair Surf Season (March, July, August, October)

March sees the tail end of the dry season, with offshore winds still frequent but swell heights starting to climb. July and August bring a surprising spike in offshore wind consistency – often above 55% – and wave heights push into the 1.3-1.4m range. The swell period remains punchy, averaging 13-14 seconds. October marks the transition back to cleaner conditions as the Intertropical Convergence Zone shifts south. These months offer good sessions, though you may need to pick your days more carefully when the wind momentarily swings onshore.

Low Surf Season (April - July, September)

From April through June, and again in September, the wind becomes the limiting factor. The percentage of ideal offshore wind drops below 50% in April and May, giving way to frequent onshore breezes from the S and SSW that chop up the wave face. However, the swell doesn't disappear – in fact, wave heights peak at 1.4m in May and June, and periods reach the 14-second mark. When the wind does come offshore, these months can produce epic, long-period groundswells. It's a low-confidence season, but the rewards for waiting out the right window are substantial.

March: The Swell Ramps Up, Wind Gets Trickier

March sees a noticeable jump in swell size, with the average height climbing to 1.1m and the period hitting 13.4 seconds. SSW swell is even more dominant at 66.5%, and the proportion of 1-1.5m waves surges. However, ideal offshore wind drops to 53% as the trade winds become more variable. The wind still blows offshore from the NNE and N, but there's also an increase in S and SW onshore flow. This month demands a keen eye on forecasts – when the wind cooperates, the waves are powerful and long-period, delivering excellent surfing.
