Best Surf Season (May - September)

The heart of the Indonesian dry season aligns perfectly with G-Land's prime time. During these months, the Southern Ocean pumps consistent, long-period SW groundswells into Grajagan Bay, with average heights peaking around 2.0–2.2m and periods averaging 14+ seconds. The dominant southeast trade winds (blowing from E/ESE/SE) provide near-perfect offshore conditions for the west-facing reef, keeping the waves glassy and clean. This is when the legendary barrels at Money Trees and the long left-handers come alive in all their glory. Expect firing conditions with 1.5–2.5m+ waves and light offshore breezes a high percentage of the time.

Fair Surf Season (April & October)

The shoulder months of April and October offer a slight transition. Swell heights remain solid, averaging 1.7–1.8m with long periods (13.7–13.8s), and the offshore wind consistency is still high (over 60% ideal). However, the trade winds may occasionally weaken or shift, and the swell direction can sometimes be a touch more southerly, reducing the peak power. Still, these months deliver plenty of fun, rippable waves in the 1–2m range with favorable winds – a great alternative to the peak season crowds.

Low Surf Season (November - March)

The Australian summer monsoon and the Indian Ocean's shifting weather patterns bring a noticeable decline in surf quality. From November through March, the average swell heights drop to 1.6–1.8m, and periods shorten to 12–13 seconds. More critically, the prevailing winds shift to a westerly quarter (W, WSW, SW), turning the offshore breeze into a frustrating onshore wind that chops up the faces. Ideal wind percentages plummet to 17–49%, meaning many days are blown out. While occasional south swell windows can still produce epic sessions, the consistency is nowhere near the dry season. Patience is key during these months.
