Best Surf Season (December - February)

Kastro Point awakens during the deep winter months when the Mediterranean basin becomes a breeding ground for low-pressure systems. December, January, and February deliver the highest average swell heights (0.7-0.8m) and period (5.8-5.9s), with ideal offshore wind frequencies peaking near 28%. The dominant swell windows from the S and SSW combine with crisp N/NW winds to produce punchy, rideable waves that can light up this SSE-facing beach. Though periods remain moderate, the consistency and quality are at their annual peak.

Fair Surf Season (November & March)

Shoulder months November and March offer a compromise between winter power and milder conditions. November sees average swell heights of 0.7m and a still-respectable 19% ideal wind, while March drops slightly to 0.6m and 23% offshore frequency. Both months see a mix of S and SSW swell interacting with building N and NW winds, producing fun, groveling-sized waves that are worth a dawn patrol when the timing is right.

Low Surf Season (April - October)

The Mediterranean summer calm dominates the majority of the year. From April through October, average swell heights plummet to 0.4-0.5m, wave periods shrink to 4.1-5.2s, and offshore wind frequencies fall below 20%. Summer swell is primarily short-period windswell from the W and NW — directions that offer little to no refraction into Kastro Point’s SSE exposure. During these months, expect tiny, micro waves or complete flatness, with occasional meltemi north winds providing rare, marginal sessions.

October: The Transition Begins

October sees a noticeable uptick in activity as the Mediterranean low-pressure track reactivates. Average swell height rises to 0.5m with a period of 4.8s. S (8.3%) and SSW (9.6%) swells become more frequent, with some 0.5-1m waves (3.3% and 3.2%). The wind patterns also shift, with ideal offshore directions (N, NNE, NW, NNW) appearing 15% of the time, still relatively low. Waves are inconsistent but when a solid S/SSW swell aligns with a northerly wind, waist-high clean waves can materialize. October marks the start of the building season, so keep an eye on the charts.
