The offshore wind window (NW-WSW) is most reliable during this period, with ideal wind frequencies reaching 24% in January and 25% in December, when high-pressure systems over the Balkans send crisp, offshore breezes. Summer is the flat season at Lagkouvardos. Average wave heights bottom out at 0.5m with periods under 5s from May through August, meaning the vast majority of days produce small, choppy, and mostly unsurfable conditions. The Mediterranean summer ridge sits squarely over the region, suppressing storm activity and funneling strong NW-NNW winds that blow in the 20-50kph range — creating messy, onshore textures for any swell that does arrive. Ideal wind frequencies drop to a dismal 3% in June through August. Only the rare, tiny groundswell from a distant summer storm or a brief morning offshore breeze offers any hope. For most surfers, this is a time to clean the board and wait for autumn.

December: Peak Winter Consistency

December rounds out the year with solid winter averages: 1.0m height, 6.5s period. Swell directions are almost ideal, with WSW (17.5%), NW (13.9%), W (12.9%), and WNW (11.9%) leading the way. The combined total from the optimal SW-WNW window exceeds 53%. Ideal wind frequency hits its annual high of 25%, thanks to frequent high-pressure ridging from the north that draws in offshore winds from the Balkan Peninsula. The wind distribution shows a balanced spread, with NNW (13.1%) and NW (10.3%) still present but often delivering clean cross-shore flow. For the savvy surfer, December offers the highest probability of scoring fun, clean, rideable waves in the 1-1.5m range, with occasional pumping sessions when a strong low pressure system stalls in the Adriatic.
