The northeast monsoon locks in a reliable window of offshore winds from the eastern quadrant, delivering clean, groomed surfaces at Malik's nearly half the time. While the predominant swell direction during these months is from the east and northeast—less than ideal for the WSW-facing reef—the combination of glassy conditions and occasional long-period pulses from the west can produce exceptional surf. Average wave heights hover in the fun-sized 1.0m range with periods around 9 seconds, offering rideable, punchy waves when the direction aligns.

Fair Surf Season (March - April & October - November)

Transitional months bring a mix of shifting wind patterns and evolving swell windows. March still enjoys high offshore wind reliability (55%) but sees swell shift toward the south and southwest, increasing the potential for better wave direction. April and October are a toss-up: swell from the optimal SW-WNW direction ramps up in size and period (10-12 seconds), but onshore winds dominate, limiting quality to brief windows of cleaner conditions. November offers a promising blend of improving offshore flow and lingering SW swell.

Low Surf Season (May - September)

The southwest monsoon takes full control, unleashing powerful, consistent groundswell from the Southern Ocean. Wave heights average a solid 1.4-1.5m with long periods of 11-12 seconds, often producing pumping, heavy surf. However, the wind blows relentlessly from the west and southwest—directly onshore or side-shore—making for choppy, bumpy surfaces. Surfable waves exist for the persistent, but clean, quality sessions are rare and fleeting during these months.

April: The Swell of the Southwest Monsoon Arrives

Long-period groundswell from the Southern Ocean floods the region, delivering an average 12.0-second period and 1.0m swell. Over 57% of the swell comes from the optimal SSW-SW-WSW window, providing heavy, rippable waves. However, the wind pattern flips dramatically: ideal offshore conditions drop to just 16%, with westerly winds (W 22%, WSW 17%, WNW 18%) dominating. Most of the time, the surface is bumpy and onshore. Only early mornings or rare easterly breezes offer clean, quality sessions.
