The NW to N swells persist, but the wind becomes more fickle. Ideal offshore winds occur 18-23% of the time, often tied to high-pressure systems settling over the Iberian Peninsula. On the right day, you can score fun, rippable waves in the 1-1.5m range with glassy conditions, especially during early morning thermal effects. It's a good time for logging or groveling on a groveler – not epic, but far from flat.

Low Surf Season (June, July, August)

Summer is the quietest period for Playa de Traba. The North Atlantic's fury is muted, with average swell heights hovering around 1.5-1.6m and periods dipping to 8.5-9.0 seconds – typical windswell and weak groundswell. The dominant swell directions shift to NW and N, but these are often accompanied by onshore winds from the same quadrants (N, NW, NNW), which dominate the wind rose. Occasional pulses from distant storms can deliver fun-sized waves in the 1-1.5m range, but you'll need to pick your windows carefully, often early morning before the sea breeze kicks in. For most surfers, this is the time to explore other activities or just enjoy the beach.

April: Spring Transition and Lighter Swells

April marks a noticeable drop in power. Average swell height falls to 2.4m and period to 10.7s – now in the punchy range. The swell direction is still favorable: WNW (14.4%), NW (12.9%), and NNW (11.5%) are the big players. Wind patterns shift toward a stronger NE (20.9%) influence, which can be onshore. Ideal offshore conditions are at 18%, the lowest since winter. The days become longer, and the thermal gradient can produce morning offshores. This is a month of inconsistency – some days you'll get clean 1-1.5m fun waves, other days it's blown out. Keep an eye on the pressure gradient: a weak Azores High can deliver pleasant S winds and decent groundswell.
