Summer is the doldrums for Playas del Este. Swell heights drop to a meager 0.6-0.8 meters with periods barely reaching 5 seconds—making the surf choppy, low, and often messy. The dominant swell direction is from the east (E and ENE), which battles the beach's north-facing orientation and fails to wrap in with any power. Offshore wind potential plummets to 16-19%, and the prevailing easterly breezes only add to the onshore crumble. While a stray tropical storm or hurricane can stir up XL swell in the 2.5m+ range from the southeast, these events are rare, unpredictable, and usually accompanied by dangerous winds.
