October: Transition and Trade-offs

October is a month of trade winds and transitional swell. The average swell height dips to 1.1m and period to 10.1s. SSE (28.8%) and S (27.7%) still lead, but there's a growing influence from SE (23.1%) and ESE (15.7%) - those swells are less off the ocean and more choppy. The wind is ideal only 37% of the time, the lowest of the year. ENE (14.7%) and E (15.1%) blow consistently, often turning the surf into a bumpy, wind-affected mess. You'll score some fun, good days when a cold front swings through and brings NW winds, but those are fleeting. Patience is key.
