While the dominant swell direction is from the NW and WNW — not ideal for Santo Amaro's SSE-facing orientation — the beach still picks up plenty of wrap-around energy from the west and southwest. September is a standout month: the ocean is still warm from summer, and the first autumn storms start to kick up long-period swell from the west and southwest.
