Fair Surf Season (April - May & September)
During the shoulder months, the northeast monsoon relaxes and the southwest monsoon begins to stir. Swell heights drop to the 0.8-1.1m range, but the quality can actually improve. April and May still see a solid ENE swell component (66.3% and 66.7% respectively) at 1-1.5m, while the wind shifts more southerly. Ideal wind percentages jump to 4% in April and 19% in May – still low, but a noticeable step up from winter. September offers the best compromise of the fair season: average swell 0.8m (often fun-sized 0.5-1.5m from NE and ENE) with a remarkable 53% offshore wind frequency. The wave period creeps back up to 9.5s, giving the small swell extra push. You'll be groveling on a fish or a log, but the conditions will be clean and playful.
Low Surf Season (June - August)
The southwest monsoon dominates the summer months, bringing persistent offshore winds (SSW-W) 30-55% of the time. However, the swell engine is nearly silent. Average wave heights bottom out at 0.7m with periods averaging only 8.4-9.0s – choppy, low, and messy by default. June through August sees the swell direction become more scattered, with ENE and E windswell making up the bulk of the tiny 0.5-1m waves. While the rare tropical depression can spin up a short-period pulse from the south or west, these are directional mismatches for Stimpy's. This is strictly a flat spell, best suited for beginner lessons, longboard cruises, or booking a trip to a more exposed reef. If you absolutely have to surf, dawn patrol with a westerly breeze can produce groomed but micro waves.
