Best Surf Season (October - March)

The North Atlantic becomes the engine room of Tolcarne's winter surf. From October through March, average wave heights climb to 5-7ft (1.5-2.2m) and swell periods regularly reach 10-12 seconds, delivering the powerful, long-period groundswell this northwest-facing bay is built to handle. The dominant W and WNW swell trains push straight into the Cornish coastline, while the south-quadrant offshore winds (S, SSW, SW, WSW) blow clean an average of 23-26% of the time. When a strong Azores High ridges in behind a passing low, Tolcarne can turn into a punchy, lined-up beach break with offshore texture and peaky A-frames.
