Best Surf Season (October - March)

At Off-The-Wall, the North Pacific sets the rhythm. The best surf of the year arrives between October and March, when a deep Aleutian Low and a strengthening North Pacific storm track drive long-period NNW and NW groundswells into the northwest-facing beach. Average wave heights peak at 8-9ft (2.4-2.7m) in December and January, with swell periods pushing into the powerful 12-second range. The wind regime cooperates more often too; E, ESE, SE and SSE winds blow offshore and groom the faces, leaving clean, rippable surf. This is when Off-The-Wall lives up to its name.

Fair Surf Season (April, May & September)

Spring and early fall offer a transitional mix. April still sees some NNW energy, but periods drop from the 12s to the 10s and the dominant ENE/E trade windswell takes over. May can be fun when a late-season NW groundswell lines up with a morning east wind, but consistency fades. September marks the beginning of the fall recovery as the North Pacific wakes up and the average period climbs back toward 9-10s; the window is open again even if the size is still building.

Low Surf Season (June - August)

Summer is the slow season at Off-The-Wall. The Aleutian Low weakens and the North Pacific surf machine shuts down. NNW/NW swell percentages collapse to near zero, leaving only short-period ENE/E trade windswell in the 5-6ft (1.5-1.8m) range, with periods of 8s or less. The surf becomes weak, bumpy and mushy. Offshore E/ESE winds are still present at times, but they are blowing over a tired, mainly windswell ocean. If you are chasing quality, summer is the time for smaller boards and low expectations.
