February: Still Stacked and Firing

February does not let up. The average swell remains at 7ft (2.2m) and the period stays long at 13.2s, keeping Pleasure Point firmly in the heavy winter category. Swell distribution is nearly identical to January: WNW produces 38.1 percent, W 20.5 percent, WSW 4.6 percent and NW 4.9 percent. Most of the energy sits in the pumping 1.5-2.5m (5-8ft) range, with nearly 1 percent above 8ft (2.5m). The point still relies on W/WNW groundswell for its daily bread, because true SSW/S swell remains extremely rare, but any WSW component gives the inside sections extra push.

Ideal offshore winds from the N-WNW quadrant blow 63 percent of the time. NNW and NW are the strongest players, contributing 18.2 and 14.7 percent of all wind observations, and the 20-30kph NW flow is more common than in January. Precipitation reaches its seasonal peak at 3.83 mm/day, air temperatures hover near 10.1°C, and water temperature sits at 12.3°C. February often pairs heavyweight waves with wet weather, but the windows between fronts are world-class.
