Best Surf Season (October - March)

Satellite Beach wears its best winter coat from October through March. As the western North Atlantic storm track ramps up, the east-northeast-facing Space Coast starts picking up a steady diet of NE, ENE and E swell. November leads the charge with an average 3ft (0.9m) of surf and the most frequent pulses in the 3-5ft (0.9-1.5m) range. December, January and February are not far behind, and the ideal-wind statistic peaks during this stretch at 14-16% as cold fronts slide through and swing winds offshore from the SW/W/WNW quadrant. Although ENE/E/ESE onshore winds can blow for many days, the cleanest windows usually show up in the wake of fronts, especially during negative NAO episodes when the storm track slips farther south. Water temperatures hold at a manageable 69-74F (20.6-23.3C), and the Atlantic stays full of low-pressure energy.

Fair Surf Season (April - May and September)

The shoulder months offer a mixed bag. April and May still see plenty of E/ENE swell direction, but average heights sink to 2-3ft (0.6-0.9m) and the period drops as summer high pressure over the Atlantic starts to crank up the trade winds. September is the wildcard: it has a low ideal-wind percentage at just 13%, but it also posts the longest average period of the year at 9.0s. Early-season hurricanes and tropical lows can send powerful E/ENE groundswell that makes Satellite Beach genuinely memorable. You just have to pick your windows carefully.

Low Surf Season (June - August)

The summer doldrums take hold from June through August. Swell heights bottom out around 1-2ft (0.3-0.6m), periods hover in the 7.6-8.1s range, and the persistent easterly trade-wind flow plus afternoon thunderstorms turn most days into micro, onshore windswell. The ideal-wind percentage falls to 8-11%, and while the water temperature reaches a balmy 81-84F (27.2-28.9C), the wave quality leaves plenty to be desired. Only a rogue tropical system sending a pulse up from the east or southeast can break the summer monotony.
