July: Peak Summer Flatness and Clean Trades

July is the true heart of the low season. The average swell height remains at 3-3.5ft (1.0m), while the average period drops to 6.7 seconds, the shortest of the year. The swell direction signal becomes extremely one-dimensional: ENE dominates an extraordinary 68 percent of the time, with E at 27 percent. That is essentially pure trade wind swell, short in period and angularly far removed from Wishing Well's preferred W/NW window. Wave heights are almost perfectly split, with 46 percent in the 0.5-1m (2-3ft) range and 51 percent in the 1-1.5m (3-5ft) range; less than 4 percent exceed 1.5m. Winds remain offshore and mostly moderate from ENE/E - ideal wind 51 percent of the time, with 46 percent ENE and 32 percent E. Water temperature peaks at 28.6°C, air averages 27.7°C (24.5-32°C), and precipitation is 3.5mm/day as afternoon showers become common. July is not about power; it is about small, clean, fun-shaped waves on a longboard. A big hurricane spinning out in the tropical Atlantic is the only realistic source of genuine swell.
