Best Surf Season (May - August)

Cottosloe's west-facing shoreline comes alive during the Australian winter when the Indian Ocean storms of the 'Roaring Forties' fire long-period SW and WSW groundswell square into the coast. This is the sweet spot of the year - average wave heights peak between 2.2m and 2.7m (7-9ft), and periods hover around 13 seconds, giving the break serious power. The wind pattern also aligns beautifully: persistent high pressure over the interior pumps offshore ESE/SE breezes, especially in May when ideal wind tops 48 percent. The result is glassy, lined-up waves that make Cottosloe a genuine winter destination.
