As the Southern Ocean's storm belt begins to shift northward through April and May, Yallingup finds its sweet spot. Average swell heights hold in the 6.5-7.5ft (2.0-2.3m) range, average periods reach 12.8-12.9 seconds, and the percentage of ideal offshore wind climbs to 28 percent in April and 26 percent in May. Long-period SW and WSW groundswell wraps around Cape Naturaliste into the west-northwest-facing reefs while ESE/SE winds groom the faces, producing the cleanest, most powerful combination of the year.
