Average wave heights climb to a solid 2.5-2.8m and periods average 12.3-12.5s, delivering pumping, firing surf. The dominant high-pressure systems track north, allowing cold fronts to sweep the Cape, and the wind regime shifts favorably: offshore flow from the N, NW, and NNW quadrants picks up dramatically, clocking in over 40% ideal wind frequency. When a strong cold front passes, expect epic, heavy conditions under bluebird skies – this is the window for XL, charging sessions.

Fair Surf Season (March - April & September - October)

The transitional shoulder months offer a mix of solid swell and fickle wind. In autumn (March-April), the ocean still pulses with 2.2-2.3m averages and long periods (11.6-12.0s), but the offshore wind frequency improves from 22% to 31% as the seasonal shift begins. Spring (September-October) sees declining swell heights (2.3-2.6m) but still decent periods; ideal wind percentages drop from 32% to 24% as the SE trades strengthen. You can still score clean, fun, solid waves, but you'll need to pick your windows carefully – early mornings often deliver that glassy rippable groom.

Low Surf Season (November - February)

Summer settles in, and the wave energy wanes. Average swell heights hover around 2.1-2.3m with periods sitting at 11.1-11.3s – still punchy, rideable surf, but the real challenge is the wind. The thermal low over the interior drives persistent SE to ESE winds (onshore) that blow over 60% of the time, trashing wave faces with choppy, messy conditions. Ideal offshore wind drops to only 18-22%. While occasional SW groundswells arrive, they are often accompanied by the same onshore flow. For the dedicated surfer, a winter pattern break or early morning NW breeze can salvage a session, but overall this is a low-season grind.
