Best Surf Season (April - August)

Itapiruba's southeast-facing beach comes alive during the austral autumn and winter, when the South Atlantic storm track shifts north and extratropical cyclones march off the Argentine and Uruguayan coasts. From April through August, average surf heights build into the 5-6ft (1.6-1.7m) range and average periods stretch to 9.3-9.9s. The statistical sweet spot is obvious: ideal wind windows occur 51 to 61 percent of the time, peaking at 61 percent in June. The swell direction becomes increasingly dominated by SSE, S and SSW energy, which means more organized groundswell wrapping into the coast. This is the time to plan a trip if you want the most consistent, cleanest surf.
