Stretching along the rugged Jæren coastline, Brusand is a beachbreak that delivers a genuine surf-friendly atmosphere when conditions align. This exposed stretch of sand builds quality waves from sizeable Northwest swells and any South groundswell, with shifting sandbars that can produce punchy, well-defined peaks. However, its currents run stronger than neighboring beaches, so familiarity with local water movement is advised. Access is straightforward—park at the camping areas located at either end of the beach. Best suited for intermediate surfers, Brusand comes alive with swell in the 1-foot range and breaks over a forgiving sand bottom. Waves peel both left and right, gaining extra power when the wind blows from the Northeast ideal. Swell direction from the South, Southeast, and Northwest is preferred, and the spot works across all tide stages, offering fun sessions at any water level. Parking is available for a small fee of NOK 10—roughly a pound—at the camping site on the far southeast end. Please stick to established paths to protect the fragile dune ecosystem. The cold months also bring the highest percentage of offshore wind days (16-18%), most often from N and NNW, though easterly winds are common as high pressure builds over Scandinavia. Summer at Brusand is a quiet affair. Average swell heights drop to a marginal 0.9-1.0m and periods slump to 6.2-6.5s – just enough for a grovel on a longboard or fish. The dominant swell sources are from W and NW, which refract in but rarely produce punch. Worse, the wind is often onshore from the SW or SSE/SE, thanks to thermal lows and a persistent trough over the North Sea. Ideal wind percentages fall to a dismal 14-15%. Occasional pulses of S-SSW swell (from distant storms in the South Atlantic) can sneak in, but expect small, soft waves best suited for beginners or a damp session on a foil board.
