Best Surf Season (December - February)

Kastro Point is a Mediterranean gem that relies on the winter storm track to do its heavy lifting. From December through February, average swell heights climb to 0.7-0.8m (2.3-2.6ft), periods hover near the 6s mark, and the north/northeast offshore wind window is at its annual strongest - with ideal conditions about 26-28% of the time. This is when south/southeast and south/southwest swells can actually hit the beach with enough energy to break in clean lines. It is not Hawaii, but for Greece it is the most consistent surf of the year. The key is a Mediterranean low stalled to the south or southwest of the region, feeding cross-sea energy into the SSE-facing beach. A negative NAO phase can help push upper-level energy into the Mediterranean, while a positive phase tends to keep the big lows bottled up in the Atlantic. A 4/3 or 5/4 wetsuit is part of the deal, especially with water temperatures falling to 14.8-15.7°C and cold continental air drops below -10°C.
