Best Surf Season (October - March)

Porto Katsiki lives and dies by the Mediterranean storm track. The SSW-facing bight is an excellent target for S/SW swell, but it sits in a sea that generates much of its energy as short-period windswell. From October to March, average swell heights run at the top of the annual cycle and the S/SSW/SW window is loaded with energy. These are the months when cold fronts and deep Mediterranean cyclones swing from the Gulf of Lion into the Ionian, sending pulses of swell against the cliffs. The prevailing NW windswell is far from perfect, but with N/NNE/NE/NNW offshore flows present 17-20% of the time, there are enough clean windows to make the winter chase worthwhile.
