Best Surf Season & Climatology

Best Surf Season (October - April)

Kanyakumari runs on a monsoon clock, and the surf genuinely comes alive once the southwest monsoon retreats and the northeast monsoon establishes itself between October and April. The dominant storm track shifts toward the Bay of Bengal and the southeast Arabian Sea, feeding consistent ESE-SE-SSE-S swell into this south-southeast-facing corner of India. More importantly, wind fields become lighter and much more variable, with W/WNW/NW/N offshore tendencies producing the highest percentage of ideal conditions - November leads at 52%, followed by March at 41% and April at 37%. Average swells sit in the 3-5ft (1-1.5m) range with periods often above 10s, creating clean, rippable waves on the better days. December and January are a little more wind-affected under stronger NE trades, but this is still the most consistent and user-friendly stretch of the year.
