The North Atlantic winter pattern delivers consistent, powerful groundswells to Leja da Palmeira from October through March. Average swell heights range from 2.0m to 2.6m with long periods averaging 11-13 seconds, thanks to frequent low-pressure systems tracking across the Atlantic. The spot benefits from a high percentage of offshore wind days (38-49%), often from the east quadrant, which groom the WNW-NW swells into clean, lined-up waves. Fair Surf Season (April, September)

While the swell is smaller, the mix of NW and W energy can still produce fun, rippable waves, especially when early-season autumn lows or late winter leftovers coincide with offshore easterlies. Low Surf Season (May - August)

Summer brings a dramatic lull. Average heights fall to 1.4-1.6m and periods dip below 10 seconds, often into the 8-9 second range. Swell becomes short-period and windswell-dominated from the NW quadrant. More critically, the percentage of ideal offshore winds drops to just 13-24%, with strong northerly and NNW winds (onshore/alongshore) prevailing. Waves are generally small and messy, making this a less reliable period for quality surf. However, occasional small groundswells from distant storms can still provide grovel-worthy sessions if the wind behaves.
