Best Surf Season (June - August)

Haast Beach's most reliable surfing comes during the Southern Hemisphere winter, when the storm track pushes hard into the Tasman Sea and the South Island's West Coast. June, July, and August deliver average wave heights of 4-5ft (1.2-1.5m) with 11.3-11.6s periods and offshore wind windows from WSW/SW/SSW/S running between 45 and 53 percent of the time. That combination means fewer bumpy, onshore days and a much higher percentage of clean, long-period 3-6ft (1-2m) waves. The water is cold - 12-13°C - but the trade-off is the most consistent and best-shaped surf of the year.
