August: Same Trade Grind, Slightly Less Peaky

August sits almost on top of July in statistical terms. Average swell height is 1.4m (4.6ft) with a 7.1s period, and the SSE window still dominates at 81.8 percent. The 1-1.5m (3.3-4.9ft) and 1.5-2m (4.9-6.6ft) categories are both well populated, at 34.1 and 24.5 percent respectively, while the 2-2.5m (6.6-8.2ft) class runs at 8.7 percent. It is another month of solid Southeast trade swell hitting Sero Beach's main south-facing window.

The wind remains the biggest obstacle. SE direction is 63.8 percent of all wind, with SSE adding 20.5 percent, and the ideal offshore wind percentage stays pinned at just 2 percent. A typical day means 15-25kph onshore flow, ropy surface conditions and plenty of current. Water temperature is at its annual minimum, 25.1°C, while air temps average 24.6°C and rainfall is a dry-season-low 1.13mm/day. Keep expectations in check unless you find a protected corner or a rare lull during a passing ridge.
