Best Surf Season (August - October)

The monsoon flip is the key to Pirates Cove. While the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) delivers the biggest, most consistent swell, it tends to be saddled with strong NE/ENE onshore winds. As the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) takes hold in the summer, the wind direction turns offshore from SW/WNW, and by August the swell period lengthens and the all-important wave quality jumps. August and September offer the highest ratio of clean, ridable surf, but October is the crown jewel: average swell height climbs to around 1.1m (3.5ft), period peaks at 10.3s, and enough NE monsoon energy has returned to give the beach real push before the trade winds get too messy. The West Pacific typhoon season also peaks during this window, and when a late-season storm tracks through the Philippine Sea, Pirates Cove can suddenly light up with longer-period E/NE swell.
