Winds during this period are predominantly from the E to ESE, blowing side-shore and keeping conditions generally clean. While fully offshore southerly winds are less common (around 30% of the time), the overall swell quality and consistency make this the premium window for experienced surfers seeking size and power.

Fair Surf Season (April, May, October)

During the transition seasons, swell energy begins to wane or build. April and May see average heights drop to 1.3-1.4m and periods shorten to 8-9s, resulting in more fun-sized, groveling waves. The wind becomes more favorable, with ideal offshore southerly flows increasing to 32-44% of the time, offering glassy conditions on the better days. October marks the return of the North Atlantic storm activity, with swell building back to 1.3m and 9.1s periods, combined with the highest percentage of ideal winds (56%), making it a hidden gem month for clean, punchy surf.

Low Surf Season (June - September)

The summer months bring the lowest average swell heights of the year, typically 1.2-1.3m with periods in the 7-8s range. The predominant swell shifts to E and ENE, delivering short-period, windswell-driven waves that rarely exceed the fun-sized category. While offshore southerly winds are most frequent (up to 58% in September), the lack of consistent groundswell means surfers will often be groveling on small, weak waves. This is the quietest period, best suited for beginners or longboarders when a small pulse coincides with light winds.
