Monte Clérigo is a low-key stretch of sand and scattered rock, offering a rarely crowded beachbreak that, on the right pulse, peels both left and right over a sandy bottom. Though it’s not a standout on most swell charts, its off-the-beaten-path vibe and mellow rolls can serve up forgiving walls for those willing to navigate the occasional boulder. Best approached with a mid-tide outlook and a relaxed attitude—this spot rewards patience more than power.

Best Surf Season (October - March)

The North Atlantic roars to life during the autumn and winter months, and Monte Clerigo sits directly in the path of the most consistent swell window in Europe. From October through March, average swell heights range from 6-8ft (1.8-2.5m), with periods climbing into the 11-13s range as extratropical cyclones deepen along the Atlantic storm track. The wave rose is dominated by W, WNW, NW and NNW energy, which lines up perfectly with Monte Clerigo's north-west facing beach. Ideal offshore winds from the SSW, SW, WSW and W blow 25-33% of the time, giving plenty of opportunities for clean, powerful surf. Water temperatures hover between 15°C and 18°C, while rain and storm fronts keep the atmosphere dynamic. This is the season for overhead-to-double-overhead barrels and serious beach break sessions.
