Today's Surf Conditions at Praia Azul
Best Surf Season & Climatology
Best Surf Season (October - March)
From October through March, the North Atlantic storm track comes alive and points squarely at Praia Azul. Deep extratropical lows marching eastward across the ocean generate consistent WNW, W and NW groundswells, with average swell heights climbing from 6-7ft (1.8-2.1m) in October to 8-9ft (2.4-2.7m) during the heart of winter. Periods sit mostly in the 11-13 second range, which means real power behind the waves. The wind is the wildcard: while W/NW winds can ruin the surface, high pressure over Iberia often delivers offshore ENE/E/ESE/SE flow. When those offshore days line up, Praia Azul is an exposed west-facing beach that can hold serious, lined-up surf.
