El Frontan

El Frontón sits just east of La Guancha, a notoriously heavy reef slab that unloads over an uneven, jagged bottom. The wave offers both lefts and rights, but the right is the standout—a more groomed, critical barrel that wraps with precision. The left, depending on swell angle, can be equally menacing, often pitching square, mutant tubes that detonate violently across the shelf. This is not a forgiving wave; expect fast-closing, shallow barrels that demand commitment and skill. Swell from the north-northwest with an east component works best, and lower tides tend to sharpen the already intense reef exposure. Best suited for advanced to expert surfers willing to trade comfort for sheer, raw power.

Best Surf Season (November - February)

The North Atlantic storm track is at its most active during these months, and El Frontan sits right in the firing line. Average swell heights run 4-5ft (1.4-1.6m) with periods of 11.8-12.5s, and the directional focus on N, NNE, NW and NNW is strong. November and December offer the best blend of size, period and offshore wind, with December reaching a 28% ideal-wind ratio. January and February remain powerful but require more patience as NE/NNE winds compete with the good swell windows.
