Best Surf Season (October - March)

Rodiles is a north-facing beach in the heart of Asturias, and it comes alive when the North Atlantic starts throwing serious groundswell toward the Bay of Biscay. From October through March the average surf size holds in the 4-6ft (1.2-1.8m) range, with wave periods climbing past 11 seconds on a regular basis. That is the meat of the north coast surf year. The single best window is December through February, when the average period reaches 12.3-12.6 seconds and offshore wind odds peak in the 51-61% range. The prevailing NW/NNW swell direction is perfect for this stretch of sand, but the knife's edge is always the wind: a clean, groomed day at Rodiles requires southerly or southwesterly offshore flow. When the Atlantic storm track lines up, a positive NAO pattern sends repeated low pressure systems toward the UK and Biscay, delivering powerful, long-period NW swell with enough S/SSW wind days to make Rodiles absolutely firing.
