Best Surf Season (April - October)

From April through October, the trade winds shift to the southeast, delivering consistent offshore flow from the S, SSW, SW, and WSW. This combination of clean offshore winds and solid swell energy averaging 1.4-1.8m with periods often exceeding 13 seconds creates the most reliable surf window. Expect fun, rippable waves to pumping sets as the deep-ocean groundswells wrap into the bay.

Fair Surf Season (November & March)

These transitional months see a shift in the atmospheric regime. November still enjoys a high percentage of offshore winds (79% ideal) but swell heights begin to ease. March marks the end of the wet season with increasing offshore flow (42% ideal) as the monsoon transitions. While conditions are less consistent than the peak months, there are still plenty of clean, long-period waves to be had, especially when the wind aligns from the south.

Low Surf Season (December - February)

The northwest monsoon dominates the austral summer, bringing frequent onshore winds from the W and WNW that deteriorate wave quality. Swell heights remain modest (1.3-1.4m) and periods are still long, but the wind direction is often unfavorable. The percentage of ideal surfing conditions drops to 15-33%. Occasional windows of offshore flow can still produce good waves, but you'll need patience and a keen eye on the forecast to score.

February: Holding Pattern

February mirrors January with a continued monsoon influence. Onshore winds from W (21.6%) and WNW (21.5) dominate, while offshore flow from the south quadrant remains scarce at 16% ideal. Swell directions are again locked in from SSW (35.2%) and SW (58.8%), with average height and period steady at 1.4m and 12.7s. The swell is powerful and long-period when it arrives, but the persistent onshore winds often leave the surface bumpy. Look for brief windows of southern quadrant breezes to catch clean, fun-sized waves in the 0.5-1.5m range. It's a month of low probability but high potential when conditions align.
