The percentage of ideal wind drops to 20-24%, yet mornings still offer clean, grovelly conditions on the smaller days. September marks the beginning of the rebound: the ocean warms and the first autumn low-pressure systems start to form. The ideal wind percentage plummets to a mere 3-14%, meaning only the infrequent early morning or evening lulls offer a window of opportunity. While the water is warm and the beach beckons swimmers, surfers will find little to get excited about. December arrives with winter fully in force, delivering the largest and most consistent swells of the year. Average swell height peaks at 1.7m with a long-period average of 12.6s. The swell direction is spread more evenly across the northwest quadrant: NNW at 38.7%, NW at 16.2%, and N at 11.0%. This distribution reflects the multitude of low-pressure systems spinning across the North Atlantic. The wind regime is similar to earlier winter but with a notable NE dominance: NE winds at 21.7%, NNE at 16.0%, and ENE at 13.5%. Ideal wind percentage dips to 25%, as stronger winds (13.5% of ENE at 20-30kph) can create cross-offshore chop.
