During these months, ground swell dominates (90-99% occurrence), delivering the most reliable and clean waves. The mean swell size ranges from 0.8m to 1.1m, peaking in August with slightly larger waves. However, wind conditions become less favorable from May onwards, with bad wind days increasing significantly—particularly from June to October, where poor winds occur 65-78% of the time. This means that while swell consistency is excellent, onshore winds can frequently disrupt wave quality. The sweet spot for balanced conditions is April, with 97% ground swell, 0.9m waves, and marginally better wind odds (51% good). December to March provides smaller but cleaner waves (0.7-0.8m) with improved wind conditions (52-56% good), making it ideal for surfers prioritizing glassy waves over size. If you’re after bigger swells, target August, but expect challenging winds.
