The autumn months mark a transitional lull in the Pacific. While swell heights remain respectable at 1.2–1.4m, the average period slips below 13 seconds and the wind consistency deteriorates. The percentage of ideal surfing wind drops to its yearly minimum of 35–38% in September and October, as the intertropical convergence zone meanders north and injects more variable, often westerly winds that put a chop on the face. November sees a slight recovery in wind stats, but the swell period continues to trend downward. These months are for the patient surfer willing to sit through marginal mornings or the occasional clean pulse from a passing cold front.

May: Maximum Swell Height

May delivers the first month of peak average swell heights, reaching 1.3m with a blistering period of 14.1s. The swell direction remains overwhelmingly SSW (94.2%), but there's a slight uptick in SW energy (5.3%). However, the wind quality begins to degrade, with ideal conditions dropping to 43%. The trade winds shift, bringing more easterly and southeasterly flows (ESE 4.5%, SE 8.9%, SSE 12.5%).
