The North Atlantic high pressure starts to strengthen, bringing more north-northeast winds that can ruin the face. You’ll need to be patient and time your sessions perfectly around frontal passages to score the good ones.

Low Surf Season (October - March)

This is the extended summer period, dominated by tropical trade winds from the north-northeast quadrant. While there is still plenty of east to southeast swell (especially from distant storms), the onshore wind blows over 70% of the time, creating lumpy, choppy conditions. Wave periods dip to 8.0-8.6s on average, favoring groveling boards. The best chance for a clean wave comes during brief periods when a trailing cold front brings a southerly wind shift, but those windows are short and infrequent. Expect small, fun-sized waves at best, with the occasional solid day if you’re lucky.

June: Peak Consistency and Quality

June is the crown jewel of the surf season. Average swell height is 1.3m with a long-period 9.6s. The swell mix is diverse: south (17%), south-southeast (17%), east-northeast (16%), east (15%), and southeast (14%) all contribute, ensuring constant swell. The wind is the best of the year—offshore conditions (WSW to NW) blow about 7% of the time, and the annoying NNE and NE winds drop to just 16% combined.
