During the core summer months and early spring, Punta Quidico offers more inconsistent but still surfable conditions. Winds remain predominantly offshore (49-54% of the time from S/SSW), ensuring smooth surfaces even when the swell is less organized. Swell heights average 1.9-2.0m with periods around 11.5-12.5s, producing fun, rippable waves. However, the swell direction is heavily skewed toward SW/WSW, with minimal contributions from the ideal N and NW quadrants. Low Surf Season (May - September)

Austral winter brings a dramatic shift in the South Pacific storm track, increasing the frequency of larger, longer-period swells from the W, NW, and even NNW. The average swell height climbs to 2.1-2.2m with periods of 12.2-12.5s, meaning there's plenty of energy in the water. But the trade-off is brutal: offshore wind consistency drops to 38-47%, and onshore northerly winds become dominant, ruining wave quality. When the wind does turn southerly—often in the wake of a cold front—the beach can fire with heavy, powerful lines. However, those windows are short and unpredictable. For most surfers, this is a time to be picky and wait for the rare gem.

August: Hope on the Horizon

August maintains winter’s intensity with average swell heights of 2.2m and period 12.4s. The directional spread is similar to July—SW 27.3%, WSW 23.0%, W 10.0%, and NW/NNW near 3.2%. The chance of a due NW groundswell remains decent. Offshore wind percentage ticks up slightly to 41%, signaling the slow return of more favorable conditions. The trend is encouraging: as the month progresses, the number of crisp, offshore days increases. August offers a mix of heavy winter swell and the first glimmers of spring wind patterns. For the patient surfer, this month can deliver both size and quality.
