During the core summer months and early spring, Punta Quidico offers more inconsistent but still surfable conditions. Winds remain predominantly offshore (49-54% of the time from S/SSW), ensuring smooth surfaces even when the swell is less organized. Swell heights average 1.9-2.0m with periods around 11.5-12.5s, producing fun, rippable waves. However, the swell direction is heavily skewed toward SW/WSW, with minimal contributions from the ideal N and NW quadrants. Low Surf Season (May - September)

Austral winter brings a dramatic shift in the South Pacific storm track, increasing the frequency of larger, longer-period swells from the W, NW, and even NNW. The average swell height climbs to 2.1-2.2m with periods of 12.2-12.5s, meaning there's plenty of energy in the water. But the trade-off is brutal: offshore wind consistency drops to 38-47%, and onshore northerly winds become dominant, ruining wave quality. When the wind does turn southerly—often in the wake of a cold front—the beach can fire with heavy, powerful lines. However, those windows are short and unpredictable. For most surfers, this is a time to be picky and wait for the rare gem.

December: Summer Returns

December marks the start of summer’s reliable pattern. Average swell height drops slightly to 1.9m with a period of 11.5s. SW swell dominates at 55.0%, followed by WSW at 26.1%. Offshore wind frequency holds at 51%, with strong S/SSW winds providing clean surfaces. While the swell direction is not ideal, the wind conditions ensure that most days produce fun, rideable waves. Wave heights in the 0.5-1.5m range are common, perfect for groveling and shortboard fun. Larger pulses from the SW can still bring pumping 2m+ waves.
