Best Surf Season (March - April)

As the austral autumn settles in, Punta Quidico receives its most consistent blend of quality swell and offshore wind. March and April boast the year's highest percentage of favorable southerly winds (up to 58% in March), grooming the often-dominant SW swell into clean, lined-up walls. Average wave heights hover around 2.0m with long periods of 12.4-12.6s, delivering powerful, punchy waves. While the majority of swell originates from the SW and WSW—directions that wrap into the NNW-facing beach—occasional pulses from the NW and NNW during these months provide that extra touch of perfection when conditions align. This is the window to score.

Fair Surf Season (January - February, October - December)

During the core summer months and early spring, Punta Quidico offers more inconsistent but still surfable conditions. Winds remain predominantly offshore (49-54% of the time from S/SSW), ensuring smooth surfaces even when the swell is less organized. Swell heights average 1.9-2.0m with periods around 11.5-12.5s, producing fun, rippable waves. However, the swell direction is heavily skewed toward SW/WSW, with minimal contributions from the ideal N and NW quadrants. Expect more groveling sessions on the smaller days, but clear skies and light winds often make up for the lack of top-end power.

Low Surf Season (May - September)

Austral winter brings a dramatic shift in the South Pacific storm track, increasing the frequency of larger, longer-period swells from the W, NW, and even NNW. The average swell height climbs to 2.1-2.2m with periods of 12.2-12.5s, meaning there's plenty of energy in the water. But the trade-off is brutal: offshore wind consistency drops to 38-47%, and onshore northerly winds become dominant, ruining wave quality. When the wind does turn southerly—often in the wake of a cold front—the beach can fire with heavy, powerful lines. However, those windows are short and unpredictable. For most surfers, this is a time to be picky and wait for the rare gem.

July: Winter Muscle

July stays in the same groove as June—average swell height 2.2m, period 12.2s, with a similar distribution of swell directions. SW is 25.8%, WSW 22.1%, W 10.1%, and NW/NNW now account for nearly 4.5% combined. The NW influence is at its seasonal peak, offering the potential for perfect peelers when the stars align. But the wind continues to be the wildcard: offshore wind at just 39% means many days are onshore and messy. The low-pressure systems that generate the swell also bring strong northerly winds. Still, if you score a southerly following a low, you'll find some of the most powerful, hollow waves of the year.
