Winter in the North Atlantic delivers the goods at Sao Torpes. From October through March, a relentless procession of extratropical storms tracks across the Atlantic, firing long-period groundswells that wrap into this West-South-West facing beach. The dominant swell shifts to NW and WNW directions, which are less than optimal for Sao Torpes as they often carry a northerly component.
