Ponce Inlet delivers a remarkably consistent, jetty-shaped right that peels along the north flank of Ponce de Leon Inlet. The long stone structure funnels swells over a sandy bottom, sculpting waves that can range from punchy, fast-breaking sections to softer, more drawn-out rides that wrap well off the beach. Conditions and tidal stage dictate the character—smaller swells produce mellow, user-friendly faces, while a bit more energy and proper tide can yield a clean, grinding right that suits a variety of skill levels.

Best Surf Season & Climatology

Best Surf Season (October - March)

The winter and early spring months are the bread and butter for surf at Ponce Inlet. As cold fronts march off the U.S. Southeast and nor'easters spin up along the Gulf Stream, the Atlantic becomes a swell machine. Ponce's east-northeast facing beach lines up perfectly with the E/NE quadrant, which supplies the overwhelming majority of the surf energy during this window. Average wave heights hold in the 1.2-1.4m (4-5ft) range with periods of 8-9s, producing punchy, well-rideable waves. The biggest challenge is wind. Onshore N-NE winds often follow frontal passages, chopping up the surface. Yet when the high pressure builds in and winds flip to W-SW, the offshore flow turns these same swells into clean, hollow wedges. Water temps range from 19.6-21.4°C (67-71°F), so a 3/2 wetsuit is usually all you need. This is when Ponce Inlet fires on all cylinders.
