Best Surf Season (October - March)

Rockaway Beach is a classic winter surf spot. As the North Atlantic storm track ramps up, extratropical cyclones and Nor'easters repeatedly fire along the East Coast and send consistent S, SSE and SSW swell into the SSE-facing sandbars. More importantly, the same weather pattern drags cold air out of Canada and pins the wind in the N/NNW/NW quadrant, which is exactly the offshore flow this exposed beach needs. With average swells holding near 1.3m (4.3ft) and ideal wind 26-29% of the time, this six-month stretch offers the most frequent combination of size, shape and clean surface.
