Duranbah

Duranbah's east-northeast facing beach is a classic Gold Coast sandbar: it needs easterly swell and west to southwest wind to show its best. Each year the balance between summer trade-wind slop and winter offshore windows changes dramatically as the South Pacific high and Tasman Sea lows shift north and south.

Best Surf Season (April - June)

This is the window where Duranbah is most consistently good. As autumn transitions into winter, the subtropical ridge drifts north, setting up more frequent SW/W offshore flow along the Gold Coast. Easterly and southeasterly swell trains remain consistent at 3-4ft (0.9-1.2m) with average periods of 8.5-8.9s, and the wind is ideal 44-65% of the time. The sandbars groom into clean, rippable form and the ocean turns on some of the funnest waves of the year.
