November: The Summer Pattern Takes Hold

November marks the clear transition to the summer surf pattern. Average swell height falls back to 1.4m (4.6ft), and the period drops to 11.6s, reducing the power and organization of the waves. Swell direction is once again dominated by SW at 52.8%, with SSW at 18.8% and WSW at 9.5%. The wave height spectrum shifts down, with the 3-5ft (1-1.5m) range becoming the most common, and 5-6.5ft (1.5-2m) waves becoming less frequent. The biggest issue is the wind. Ideal offshore wind drops to just 14%, while SW (12.5%), SSW (11.8%), WSW (10.1%), and ESE (8.5%) dominate the wind rose. These are predominantly onshore or cross-onshore directions for south-facing Point Leo, leading to choppy, bumpy conditions much of the time. Water temp warms to 16.4°C, air temp averages 15.1°C, and precipitation increases to 2.34 mm/day. Dawn patrols can still score clean waves before the seabreeze kicks up, but November is largely a quality-over-quantity month.
