December: Summer Slop and Dawn Patrol Gold

December rounds out the year with Werri locked in summer mode. The average swell height is 5ft (1.6m), but the 8.2s average period gives the waves a punchy, disorganized feel. NE and ENE swells account for roughly 30% of incoming energy, and when combined with E, ESE and SE, the NE-through-SE arc supplies most of the surf. SSE and S pulses still appear about 26% of the time, but they are less frequent and often shorter-lived. Wind is again the limiting factor: NNE and NE flow combine for around 24% of all readings, while the offshore W-WNW-NW quadrant drops to just 11.6%. That gives Werri a 32% ideal-wind score - very similar to January and February. Water temperature is warm at 20.5°C and air averages 19.7°C, so summer beach days are pleasant, but surface conditions become increasingly bumpy by mid-morning. Look for dawn patrol windows, early offshore breezes, and any late-season Tasman low that can spin up a clean E/SE swell. December is the last month of the autumn countdown, and the surf is waiting for the winter switch to flip again.
