Marinella is a classic sand-bottom beach break tucked into the Anglet coastline, where the presence of jetties helps sculpt both lefts and rights off the shifting peaks. This spot is the definition of a fickle beauty—on its best days, the sandbanks align with the right swell to produce steep, punchy shoulders that can open into a quick barrel. But when the sand shifts or the wind turns foul, the same lineup can devolve into a mushy, disorganized mess. The magic here hinges on sand distribution and clean wind, rewarding patient surfers with moments of pure, hollow perfection.

Best Surf Season (October - March)

The prime window at Marinella runs from October through March, when the northern hemisphere storm track drives a conveyor belt of low pressure across the Atlantic and into the western Mediterranean basin. This is when the majority of W, WNW and NW ground swells arrive with 11-13s periods and average heights in the 1.3-1.8m (4-6ft) range. The key for Marinella is timing: with a beach facing WNW, the best waves form when these swells meet a light E to SSE offshore breeze, grooming the faces and holding the lines open. December, January and February are the standouts, while October and March offer the first and last taste of proper winter surf.
