Best Surf Season (November - March)

The winter months deliver the only real window of consistent surf at Costa Navarino. While the Ionian Sea rarely produces the long-period groundswell of an open Atlantic coast, average wave heights climb to 3-3.5ft (0.9-1.1m) and the average period stretches to 6.0-6.5s from November through March. This is punchy, rideable windswell and short-period swell rather than clean groundswell, but it is the most reliable combination of wave height, favorable W/SW direction and offshore E/NE wind that the spot sees all year. Low-pressure systems tracking across the Mediterranean are the engine room; when a depression deepens over the Ionian or a cold front sweeps south of the Alps, the WSW-facing beach lights up. December and January sit at the peak, with nearly 44-47% of the directional spectrum coming from the preferred SSW-SW-WSW-W window and offshore NNE/NE/ENE/E flow occurring 33-37% of the time.
