Best Surf Season (December - February)

If you are chasing waves at Loutsa, winter is your window. The North Atlantic storm track and Mediterranean low pressure systems become the main drivers, and although this east-facing Greek beach will never see the open-ocean groundswell of an Atlantic coastline, December, January, and February deliver the largest average surf heights of the year - around 3ft (0.9m) - and the highest percentage of offshore wind. Average swell periods hover just above 5s, often putting the surf in the 'average, punchy and rideable' zone when the wind cooperates. Water temperatures sit at 14-17°C (57-63°F), and the 36-38% frequency of ideal offshore flow gives you the best odds of clean, lined-up waves.
