Today's Surf Conditions at Medewi
Spot Overview & Description
Medewi sits quietly on Bali’s west coast, a world away from the island’s bustling core. The two-hour drive from Kuta winds through lively roads, but the payoff is immediate: a relaxed atmosphere, black sand stretching along the shore, and rustic losmens perched right on the point, putting you steps from the lineup. The wave here is a long, rolling left that peels over a mix of boulders and smooth sand, offering rides that can stretch up to half a kilometer when everything lines up. Medewi responds best to south to southwest swells, cleaning up with northeast winds, and handling everything from modest 2-foot pulses to bigger days across low, mid, and high tide. It’s a forgiving wave that suits all skill levels—beginners find their rhythm, intermediates enjoy the glide, and advanced surfers can carve from the takeoff to the inside. Beyond the main point, countless black sand beach breaks and river mouths in both directions provide variety and solitude. With fewer crowds than Bali’s famous breaks, Medewi is a laid-back sanctuary for anyone chasing quality time on a memorable left.
Best Surf Season & Climatology
Best Surf Season (January - April)
The Medewi swell machine gets its cleanest expression between January and April. This is the back half of the northwest monsoon, when the Indian Ocean storm track is active and plenty of SSW/SW groundswell lines are aimed directly at this south-southwest-facing boulder point. Ideal offshore wind percentages run at 30-39 percent, the highest of the entire year, and average swell heights sit at a very manageable 3-4ft (1.0-1.1m) with long-period energy between 12.2 and 13.5 seconds. That combination keeps the long left fun, rippable and relatively clean, especially in the morning when land breezes align with the offshore N/NE quadrant.
